There are so many factors to consider when looking for the perfect venue, such as catering, activities, accommodation, location, and so on. For this reason, our team has compiled a list of 7 of the most unique, picturesque, fun-filled, or simply the most relaxing retreat centers they could find in the great state of New York.

Each of the venues in this list is totally unique compared to the others and is certainly not the type of place most people get to take advantage of all the time. So no matter what type of event you are planning for, be it a wedding, a high-school group, family reunion, corporate getaway, birthday party, or just a chance to switch off and relax in nature, we hope that you’ll find ideas and inspiration from the venues we have shared below.

Get Back To Nature - Tennessee State Park, Tennessee

There’s something about the outdoors that seems to rise to the occasion of a wedding. The way color palettes of earth and sky highlight the purity of the moment. The way the browns of timber and the greens of grass provide a backdrop for the white of the wedding dress. The way the afternoon light illuminates the face and hair of a radiant bride. The elegance and simplicity of the outdoors draws the hearts of wanderers and leads them to the place where they no longer wander alone.

If a natural setting wedding has captivated your dreams, you have come to the right place. Whether you need space for rehearsal dinners, ceremonies, receptions or anniversary celebrations, you’ll find what you’re looking for in Tennessee State Parks.

It’s not every day that your wedding photos can include a waterfall, breathtaking overlook, or the Appalachian Trail. We don’t know about you, but that sounds a lot more unique to us than the staged photos your friends took in front of some random bushes. Even beyond the photos, it’s just a cool experience to retreat to a destination with so much natural beauty. We all know that life is an adventure, and we think your life together should start with its own adventure.

Top Tips For Planning a Summer Camp Wedding

Planning a Camp Wedding or Event?

So, you want your wedding to be different, fun, not just a wedding weekend but a place you and your guest can relax, enjoy and experience something new. Not to mention something you and your guests can talk about for years to come! Finding the right venue is the key what a better place then at a Camp setting! It could be a Boys/Girls camp, or a campground, oh the fun you will have! You have the lodging, the hall, the activities, what else do you need? Trust me there are many things you may not be thinking about. Here are a few things to consider when hosting a wedding/Event at a Camp.

Wedding.jpg

Take Care of Your Guests

Your guests are rock stars for making the trip to the camp, so give them the goodies they deserve (and need!). Greet guests with a welcome bag in their rooms filled with local treats, campsite maps, daily itineraries and local areas to visit. And seeing as the nearest pharmacy might be miles away, this isn’t the time to skimp on necessities. Make sure every room and restroom is stocked with soaps, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, bug spray, sunscreen and allergy medication—better safe than sorry. And if you’re in a climate that gets chilly at night, always have cozy blankets and throws at the ready.

Camp wedding mug.jpg

Budget for Camp Extras

Since your campsite is most likely not a full-service wedding venue, factor additional expenses into your budget like party rentals, proper lighting, linens, tableware, suitable restrooms and additional lodging (in case the camp can’t sleep everyone, or you don’t want your grandparents cramped in bunk beds). If you do block extra rooms nearby, don’t forget transportation to shuttle guests to and from the camp and something you probably haven’t thought of? Hiring a lifeguards/activity director—you’ll want a certified pro on duty during any activities involving water (especially if drinks are flowing).

70035987_10162079145820648_3277910695185743872_n.jpg

Accessibility

If your Camp doesn’t have a vendor list, or they do, but you want to go with someone else make sure your vendors are familiar with the venue and setting, along with what they will need to supply before booking. You could be looking at increased labor costs for rentals and catering. Caterers may need extra generators, cooks’ tents, Linens, tableware etc. Find out exactly what’s included from not only the camp but the caterers.

Wedding sign.jpg

Signage

Camps are big and can be overwhelming especially if you have activities involved, along with different locations for ceremony, cocktail hour etc. Yes, you will have a map BUT your guests will not be carrying around all weekend.

Wedding planner.jpg

Hiring a Wedding Planner/Coordinator

I’m sure your thinking “we got this; we have a few days before to start setting up it’s all good!” In a perfect world, sure, in reality not so much. How will you be in charge, checking in the vendors, making sure everything and everyone is on time? Having the extra set of eyes, someone who knows the property and can direct the vendors, answer technical questions, set up the décor, tables chairs, etc. Be there greeting the guests and helping them find their way to their cabin. While they are doing all this, you can be enjoying the camp, activities, your guests and most of all relaxing and having fun!

10 Reasons to get married at Summer Camp

David & Katie who held their wedding at Camp Schodack, NY

David & Katie who held their wedding at Camp Schodack, NY

  1. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION

    • Why confine yourself to a room in a hotel or conference center when you can make use of 100 acres of open lawns and woodlands in the countryside surrounded by all the beauty of nature.

  2. MAKE IT UNIQUE

    • Create the wedding you want without limitation. Want to bring your own caterers? decorations? your best friend Sally’s dog? Go ahead! You can make the schedule that works best for you without anyone telling you otherwise.

  3. THE VIEWS

    • Summer Camps are set in beautiful locations and available during peak seasons. Whether it is spring, summer or fall, the great American outdoors is a truly spectacular backdrop for any event. Get married on a hilltop or in the woods, with beautiful green lawns stretching out as far as you can see or under a canopy in the trees - You can do it wherever you like.

  4. ACTIVITIES

    • It’s a Summer Camp and that means all the benefits of having plenty of activities right outside your front door. Basketball, baseball, go-karts, swimming pools, climbing towers, woodland hikes, mountain bikes and more. You name it, they have it and they are all available to entertain you and your guests.

  5. MAKE YOUR BUDGET GO FURTHER

    • By renting the facilities, you have the run of the place and can be as lavish or as cost effective as you like. Let them do all the catering or host your own BBQs. You can bring in food trucks or enjoy Camp favorites like grilled cheese!

  6. HAVE THE ENTIRE PLACE TO YOURSELVES

    • Having people look in at what is going on can feel impersonal when you are trying to celebrate with friends and family. By having the entire place to yourselves you can hold your dream wedding away from peering eyes and really make it special.

  7. INVITE EVERYONE YOU KNOW!

    • Who is going to make the ceremony and then who will only be invited to the reception??? You don’t have to worry about that at Camp. With bunks, cabins and accommodation normally used to holding hundreds of people, you can invite everyone you want with no fear of running out of room.

  8. EXPERIENCE THE MAGIC OF CAMP, AGAIN.

    • If you ever went to summer camp then you know how special it is and you’ll get to dive back into that world for the weekend to celebrate your special day. Plus any guests that never went to Camp can finally see what all the fuss is about.

  9. MAKE IT LAST LONGER

    • There is no expectation that you will be just there for the day. Many Summer Camps will let you have the facilities overnight or even for the whole weekend. This means that you are in no rush. You can really savor every moment with your guests.

  10. FINISH WITH A BANG

    • Imagine getting to the end of your wedding celebrations and watching fireworks paint the sky and after that, instead of having to put everyone in taxis home, you can all wrap up warm and sit round a fire, roasting marshmallows and talking about how great the weekend was. When you are finally done for the night you’ll only have a short walk back too your cabin!
